Helicoils are not recommended as a repair solution, since they do not allow the spark plug to dissipate heat quickly enough. Thus, reducing spark plug life and melting of the tip. KP has spent countless hours improving this kit, which has proven to work just as good as the original threads. The standard kit is made to repair damaged or corroded spark plug threads. The kit comes with two KP-made stainless steel inserts. (You cannot use standard inserts). The oversized thread repair kit is made for those who previously installed a helicoil, looking to install a permanent solution. The kits comes with all the tools you need. The included counterbore tool in the kit is very slow to cut, so we have an additional cutter available for purchase if you will be doing more than one hole or if you are a shop. Also, the insert glue is highly recommended for purchase as well, not included in the kit. These inserts can be installed with the head on or off, but highly recommended with the head off.
