Kawasaki Information
Fuel, fuel and more fuel!
What Fuel Should I be using and Why?
For all Naturally Aspirated Engines, KP and Kawasaki both recommend nothing more than Regular 87 Octane Gasoline, pump or marine. Using a higher Octane fuel in these machines will do nothing but waste money.
For All Supercharged Machines, Specifically 300/310 ALL Years, 90 Octane is the absolute minimum as per Kawasaki. To be safe we actually recommend using Fresh 93 Octane at ALL times. Reason being is how prone to detonation these engines are. The last thing you want is to blow up your really expensive Kawasaki Jet ski. And trust me, it happens all too often from something as simple as fuel. For all you running Rec 90, this is the minimum recommended by Kawasaki, however if you are doing anything over 6500 RPM, you may be slowly (or quickly) destroying your machine. The problem with using low octane fuel is it really can put a damper on your day for such a simple thing. Most people actually don’t even know that was the cause after it happens. So, please take our advice and be careful when using 90 octane fuel! Now say you are on the water and cannot get 91 or 93 octane, or live in a country with less than 91 octane? We have some solutions for you.
- Always carry a good high quality octane booster. Always mix higher than you need to be safe.
- If you have no octane booster and you are running say Rec 90. Then we HIGHLY recommend not doing full throttle at all! Nothing above 6500 RPM and you will be safe. Treat the fuel as there just to get you home.
This is all stock ECU here, once you get into tunes, fuel can be very problematic. Say you ONLY have an SDM, then the above will apply to you. If you have a tune, a lot of the companies neglect to tell you the most important information you need to know, “fuel”. Plus, unfortunately, in the Kawasaki world nobody really knows besides us. So, here is what you need to know. If you have a tune from any manufacturer, 93 Octane is your only choice period! If it’s hot out you may even need a little octane booster if you ride a lot at WOT (use your discretion). If not, and you give it little blips here and there, mostly cruising, then you should be good. But, the more WOT you do, the higher the chances your motor may go. So, please add some octane booster. If in the case where you are on the water and cannot get good fuel. As above, fill with the fuel you need, but DO Not pull into boost. Stay around 5500-6000 RPM to be safe. If you want to be safe at all times, it doesn’t hurt to always add octane booster.
KP is here to ensure you have the most fun and minimal to no downtime on the water. This information is strictly due to our own testing and data we have compiled over the years. Happy riding everyone!
